The North Lamar Panthers high powered offense is dependent on a powerful running game. This is where Javon Franklin comes into the picture.
Javon is a junior this year and has been playing football since he was seven years old. He went to T.G. Givens for pre-K and Kindergarten, but after that, has attended North Lamar.
Javon is averaging just under 150 yards per game this season, and he has 13 touchdowns in the first five games of the season. Eleven of his touchdowns have come on the ground while the other two have been receiving touchdowns.
“We have a family that looks out for each other,” Franklin says about his current varsity team. “They know how to play together.”
One thing that has helped Javon has been the arrival of head coach Tim Billings. Knowing what it takes to be successful at the next level, he’s been able to help transfer that knowledge to Franklin. Franklin says, though, that Billings always emphasizes the team. In the past, he notes, it was always about individual play instead.
Franklin also plays basketball for North Lamar. His favorite subject in school is English and he hopes to attend college somewhere to be a physical therapist. He would love to take his football game to the next level as well.
When he’s not blowing past defenses and scoring touchdowns, Javon loves to hang out with his friends and have a good time. Be sure to catch Javon and the rest of the Panthers Friday night as they host Pittsburg for Homecoming 2015.
