Special Olympics of Texas hosted the 23rd Annual Winter Games in Austin February 4-7, with competition in Bowling, Volleyball and Powerlifting. Coaches Sherry Kuhl, Tammra Fitgerald and Aaron Welch led the North Lamar Bowling Team to compete in the SOTX state bowling tournament. They were assisted by chaperones Krissy Crites, Terra Compton, Janet Stringer and Donna Wilkerson .
The NL Panther bowlers had to compete in a local tournament in Paris and the Area tournament in Dallas in order to qualify to compete at the state level. Each of the students had to bowl a minimum of two games at the state tournament. Every single one did an outstanding job representing North Lamar and the Special Olympics team.
Katelyn Crites won a 1st place gold medal and Ana Beck won a bronze medal for 3rd place. Fourth place ribbons were awarded to Helena Dyck, TJ Parker, Gabby Smith and Mike Thomas. Sarah Eudy and Charles Wilkerson received 5th place ribbons. Clarissa Kilcrease won a 6th place ribbon, and Hunter Compton and Clayton Tippit each brought home a 7th place ribbon.
Congratulations to all of the NL Special Olympics Bowling Team members for everything they have accomplished. They are this week's Guaranty Bank and Trust Athletes of the Week.
