Haley Porter, a senior for the North Lamar Pantherette volleyball team, is no stranger to the court. The senior setter has played club volleyball for eight years and school ball for six.
”I love the team aspect of volleyball. Getting to bond with other girls…going through the ups and downs together on and off the court. My best friends are also my teammates.” - Haley Porter
A member of the team that made it to the regional quarterfinals last year, Haley realizes this year the importance of being a senior and the leadership responsibility associated with it.
”As a senior I should be giving the younger teammates an example of how to be a leader and to be mentally strong on the court.” - Porter
Volleyball isn’t the only sport Haley plays, though. She also plays tennis and has played since her sophomore year. She also jokes about how she became quite good at badminton over the summer due to weather while on vacation.
After graduation, Haley wants to go to Texas A&M at College Station. Her plan is to become a nurse practitioner. When she’s not playing sports, she likes to kayak on the lake and hang out with friends. Haley also has a dog, which she says is “obsessed” with and is basically like her own child.
I asked Haley a series of questions and here are her answers:
Restaurant: Pei Wei
Song: If I Ain’t Got You
Band/Singer: George Strait
TV Show: Modern Family
Movie: Remember the Titans
Book: Summer of My German Soldier
Subject in School: History
If you could go one place on earth, where would it be? I would go to Italy to eat good Italian food and I heard the people are nice.
If you can have dinner with one person dead or alive, who is it? George Strait because I love all of his songs and I’ve always wanted to hear him sing in person.
If you could go back in time and witness one event live and in person, what event is it? Whenever the Berlin wall was torn down because I love history.
##Congratulations Haley Porter for being this week’s Guaranty Bank and Trust Athlete of the Week.
