It may be his first year as the starting quarterback for the varsity team, but Sam Cowling is no stranger to the game. Just a few years ago Sam's brother, Jake, was leading the team as quarterback. Not to mention the fact that his dad is one of the coaches as well.
"It's cool to play for [my dad]. He always keeps it real with me. And it's nice to share my high school football experience with him." - Sam Cowling
This is Cowling's seventh year playing football. It's not his only sport. Sam also plays baseball for North Lamar and runs track. Last year he rand the 4x400 and the 400. The track has paid off, too. Sam is averaging over 130 yards per game on the ground this year for North Lamar.
Being quarterback can have its advantages but can also be a lot of responsibility too. This year is no different. It's up to Sam to lead the team on and off the field.
"Being out there with my teammates and of course winning." Cowling on his favorite part about football.
Not only is Cowling the starting quarterback, he was also nominated for Homecoming King this year. The senior class nominates people and the top five vote getters are the ones nominated. The Homecoming King will be announced at the pep rally on September 23.
When he's not playing football, running track or hitting a baseball Sam enjoys hunting and fishing. He also likes to hang out and relax with the family.
