The North Lamar Panthers looked to be in control, up by six runs in the second inning, but Pittsburg came back to grab a 7-6 win. North Lamar took an early 6-0 lead but was unable to hold onto the lead as the Pirates kept battling back.
North Lamar jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the second. Evan Nibblet singled to ignite the Panthers' offense. A double by Ty Jones then moved Nibblet from first to third. North Lamar then tacked on more runs when Austin Exum and Jones scored on a two-run double by Tyler Baird. Sam Cowling and Brayden Steed scored on a two-run single by Chad Box, and Box scored on an RBI double by Trey Scudder.
It looked as if it was going to be that kind of night for the Panthers' offense. However, they were unable to score any more runs after the second and Pittsburg started chipping away. In the third inning, they were able to get three runs back from North Lamar as the Panthers defense committed two errors.
After scoring one more in the fourth, the Pirates would wait until the last possible moment to win the game. North Lamar, up 6-4 going to the bottom of the seventh inning, was able to get two of the first three batters out. The second hitter lined a double off of Kevin Dickey. After a walk, Coach Scott Igleheart called on freshman Matt Gibbons to close out the game. Unfortunately Gibbons was unable to grab the final out. A single, a hit by pitch and two walks plated the final three runs of the game, giving Pittsburg the walk-off 7-6 victory.
With the loss, North Lamar moves to 3-2 in District and will play at Atlanta on Friday Night.
