For two and a half quarters, the North Lamar Panthers controlled the tempo of the game against the Paris High Wildcats. With nearly four minutes left to play in the first half, the Panthers led 13-11 and had frustrated the Wildcats offensive attack. It didn't take long, though, for Paris to pull in front and take control on their way to a 56-39 win.

For the second night in a row, North Lamar ended the first quarter with a three-pointer at the buzzer. Alex Honeywood provided the honors Monday and Julique Franklin gave the encore Tuesday night. The three-pointer, just like Monday, gave North Lamar the lead going into the second frame.

With the score 11-10, the Panthers turned up the defensive pressure. North Lamar had seven steals on the night as opposed to only three by Paris High. However, it was the missed opportunities that hurt North Lamar more than anything.

With the game sitting at 13-11 halfway through the second quarter, Paris went on a 9-0 run. Versache Buchanan would stop the bleeding momentarily with a 15 foot jumper only to watch Paris score five more to close out the half. That 14-2 run would be the catalyst for the rest of the game as North Lamar would be playing catch up the rest of the way.

North Lamar got within five early in the third quarter, but Paris proved too strong as they quickly built the lead back to double-digits. North Lamar had great looks all night long, but unfortunately the ball wasn't falling. Whether it was a three or a layup, the ball seemed to fall halfway down and then bounce back out.

"I felt good about the way we played. Our seniors...our veteran guards got a lot of shots; a lot of good shots they make in practice that we work on. They got to the paint. We missed a lot of shots and had a few turnovers here and there. Other then that, I'm pleased with the way we played. - Coach Homer Garner

With the loss, North Lamar is now 1-1 in district and will travel to Pleasant Grove Friday night.
