Pantherettes Use Three-Ball to Dominate Pleasant Grove

Girls BasketballGreg Higgins

The North Lamar Pantherettes entered Friday night's game tied with pleasant grove for first place in District 15-4A. Thirty-two minutes later and the Pantherettes were alone on top of the District. North Lamar, who had to rally from ten points down to defeat Paris High on Monday night, had no problems Friday in their 64-40 win over Pleasant Grove.

North Lamar knocked down 12 three pointers in the win, with Bailey Exum hitting five of them. North Lamar jumped out to a 19-9 lead after the first quarter. Pleasant Grove rattled off nine straight points to open the second and cut the lead down to one point. After coach Chris Arledge called a timeout, North Lamar closed the quarter on a 17-5 run to put the game out of reach.

North Lamar's defense proved stingy all game long as Lexie Stephens showed her senior leadership to lead the team. Lexie only contributed six points, however, she was responsible for numerous possession changes as she constantly tied up the Pleasant Grove players.

Kyle Halstead had another solid game as well. Kylie finished with seven points, nine rebounds and five assists for North Lamar. The Pantherettes have finished the first half of district play and will now go on the road to begin the second half on Tuesday night as they face Liberty-Eylau in Texarkanna.
