North Lamar's Defense Helps Anchor Third Win of the Season

Girls BasketballGreg Higgins

The Pantherettes defense only allowed four point in the second quarter and zero points in the third on their way to a 40-35 win in their home opener against Gunter. The defense held Gunter to 23% shooting on 11 of 47 while causing 20 turnovers in the game.

North Lamar opened up the game on a 7-0 run only to watch their opposition finish the first on a 14-0 run. The Pantherettes battled back to tie the game at 18 at the break.

"The subs came in and did a great job getting us caught up in the second quarter," head coach Brett Harp said after the game. "We had a really good third quarter defensively."

Really good might be an understatement. Gunter was 0-9 in the third quarter and had one of their shots blocked by Sierra Rice. North Lamar would take a 26-18 lead into the final quarter. Gunter tried making a comeback but every rally attempt was thwarted by North Lamar.

"Defensively we've got to be better," coach Harp said. "We are 3-0, though. I am proud of the team for that."
