The North Lamar Pantherettes couldn’t take advantage of a strong third quarter in a 47-37 loss to Melissa. North Lamar only gave up two points in the third quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lady Cardinals.

It took a little while to adjust to the different environment for both teams. The game was played in downtown Dallas at the American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Mavericks.

Melissa used a 19-10 run in the second quarter to pull away. The Pantherettes trailed by nine going into the break, 29-20. However, after the strong third quarter, North Lamar cut the deficit down to one at 31-30.

”Our offense and our defense kind of run together. If we’re ever struggling on offense, our defense kind of shuts down with it.” - Brett Harp

Melissa pulled away in the fourth quarter, though as they ended the game on a 10-2 run. Madison Morrison finished with 14 points to lead the Pantherettes. She also made three from beyond the arc. That’s even more impressive when you realize they were playing on the NBA size court.

Offensively, North Lamar struggled from the floor. They shot 30% from the floor and had 12 turnovers.
