Say what you want about how young the North Lamar Pantherette varsity team is, but when the game was on the line against Melissa it was the seniors that took over. Playing at the American Airlines Center Monday afternoon, North Lamar fell 42-40 in overtime.

Trailing by five after three quarter, Bailee Nickerson took the game into her own hands. After Madison Morrison hit two three pointers to open up the fourth quarter, Nickerson would score the next nine points for North Lamar, including the game tying layup at the end of regulation.

Leading 37-36 late in the quarter, Melissa went to the line for a one-and-one opportunity. They would knock down the first and miss the second. Nickerson would grab the rebound and travel the length of the court. with just under two seconds showing on the clock, Bailee would lay the ball in to tie the game.

Due to time constraints, the overtime was a running clock. Nickerson would hit two free throws in the period but that's all North Lamar would manage as they fell to Melissa.

The Pantherettes started off strong as they outscored the Lady Cardinals 11-4 in the first quarter. The North Lamar offense would struggle the next two quarters, however, as they would be outscored 24-12. That would set up the dramatic fourth quarter comeback.

Madison led the way with 18 points, while Nickerson finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the team. She also led the team with four steals. North Lamar will face Idabel on the road Friday night.
