The first time the North Lamar Pantherettes took the court against Pleasant Grove, the Lady Hawks knocked down six three point baskets in the first quarter on their way to a 72-50 win. On Tuesday night, they only hit one in the opening quarter. This time, the Pantherettes secured the victory with a 61-52 final score on senior night.
The Pantherettes started off strong as they jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead in the first quarter. Pleasant Grove would come storming back, however, as they went on a 13-2 run themselves to take a 15-13 lead. The two teams would battle back and forth for the rest of the half.
With the game tied at 21 coming out of the break, Madison Morrison took over for the Pantherettes. Morrison scored 21 of her game-high 26 points in the second half. North Lamar would knock down five from beyond the arc in the third quarter to give Pleasant Grove a taste of their own medicine. Madison had two as did Bailee Nickerson. The other one came from Sydnee Prunty.
North Lamar would pull away even further in the fourth quarter thanks to making their free throws. North Lamar shot 10 free throws in the fourth and made seven of them. Pleasant Grove tried making a comeback but ran out of time as North Lamar kept hitting shots. Bill Jones had several layups for the Pantherettes in the fourth that helped secure the victory.
With the win, North Lamar tied Pleasant Grove with a 7-3 district record. That tie was for second place. However, the teams flipped a coin to decide the exact playoff seeding. North Lamar lost the coin flip and will be the third place team in district. The win was alsot he fifth straight for North Lamar.
