"You can't win a game in one quarter, but you can sure lose it." - Brett Harp
Those words echoed out of Coach Harp's mouth after his team fell in their district opener 55-42 at home against Pleasant Grove. The quarter he was referring to was the first quarter. North Lamar only managed two points in the quarter as Pleasant Grove used a full court press to jump out to an 18-2 lead.
The Pantherettes committed 18 turnovers in the first half due to the full court press. The Lady Hawks were relentless around the ball. Something clicked in the third quarter, though.
Trailing 25-13 at half, the Pantherettes would actually take a lead in the third quarter. It came on the last play of the quarter as Madison Morrison made a layup as the horn sounded. It capped off a 21-8 quarter by North Lamar.
Defensively McKenzie Mitchell helped fuel the comeback for North Lamar. She only scored two points, but she grabbed nine rebounds and had two steals as well for North Lamar.
Unfortunately for the Pantherettes, though, Pleasant Grove went back to the press in the fourth quarter. North Lamar, once again, had trouble with it. Pleasant Grove used the press to fuel their own run to end the game. North Lamar is now 0-1 in district and will play at Liberty Eylau on Tuesday night.
