North Lamar’s Debate Team Heads to State

The North Lamar UIL Debate team earned the District 15 AAAA Cross Examination Debate Championship after competing in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday

Senior Seth Gurley and Sophomore Kay Edwards earned first place going undefeated in five rounds.  Sophomore Steele Musgrove and Freshman Colin Hodgkiss earned second place winning four and losing only once in finals.  Both teams will advance to the state competition March 20 and 21 at the University of Texas in Austin.  Gurley earned top speaker for the tournament. 

Additionally, Sophomore Jordan Walters and Freshman Sydney Neuse earned 4th place and contributed to North Lamar’s success.  North Lamar’s team earned 46 out of a possible 48 points allowed by the UIL point schedule for Cross Examination Debate.  The team, coached by Kristi Hodgkiss, won the district championship for the tenth year in a row.
