North Lamar High School art students competed in the Region 8 Visual Art Scholastic Event (V.A.S.E.) in Texarkana.

“V.A.S.E. is the UIL equivalent competition in art where the students take their completed artwork and go through an interview process to talk about their artwork with a judge,” said NLHS Art Instructor Lena Spencer.  “The interview is a large part of their score and is designed to help students be aware of the critical decisions they make as they are creating their art and verbalize these decisions with confidence.”

North Lamar students receiving gold medals are Lauren Arnold, Taylor Kyle, Shalen Haney, Carly McCurry-Porter, Brooke Spencer, and Madison Staggs. Their artwork along with other selections form the art department will be on display during North Lamar High School’s Annual Spring Arts Event on Mondayevening, March 23, at North Lamar High School.

“I could not be more proud of our group that competed this year.  We have some very talented students at North Lamar!” Spencer said proudly.
