Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten registration roundup is underway at North Lamar ISD. Parents may visit W. L. Higgins Elementary or Aaron Parker Elementary April 6 through April 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to fill out the necessary paperwork for the 2015-2016 school year.
“Students registering for kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2015,” reminds Parker Principal Tammie Bates. “The child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and social security card are all needed to register. Proof of residence in the North Lamar school district and custody papers, if applicable, are also needed.”
“Pre-kindergarten students have an additional set of qualifications,” said Higgins Principal Claudia Pursifull. “Parents registering their pre-k child will need to bring verification of family income and be aware that their child must have midday transportation.”
Pursifull went on to say. “The child must be four years of age on or before September 1, 2015, and meet a list of criteria.”
The pre-kindergarten list of criteria includes: unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or from a family whose income qualifies the child to receive free or reduced lunches; or homeless; or be the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United State who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or if the child has ever been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing.
Higgins Elementary serves Early Childhood through first grade and Parker Elementary serves Head Start through fifth grade.
