Speakers Persuade for Top Spots at Region

North Lamar High School seniors, Seth Gurley, left, and Jared Chenevey, right, took the top two spots in Persuasive Speaking at the Regional Speech and Debate Tournament held at Texas A&M Commerce on April 24 and 25.  Chenevey earned first place while Gurley followed with second.  North Lamar’s team placed third overall. 

Others contributing to the team were Mackenzie Beckmon, 6th in Lincoln-Douglas Debate,  Autumn Boren, 5th in Poetry Interpretation, Jordan Walters, 5th in Informative Speaking, Kay Edwards, 6th in Informative Speaking, and Steele Musgrove, 6th in Persuasive Speaking.  Additionally, Musgrove, Edwards, Walters and Beckmon were among thirty students from across the state to be named to the State Meet Honor Crew, which helps run the Speech and Debate portion of the tournament.  Kristi Hodgkiss is coach for the team.
