North Lamar High School Peer Mentors were treated to hamburgers and all the fixings for going above and beyond in mentoring students throughout the year. The junior and senior mentors, who are carefully paired with students who have learning disabilities or who struggle in the classroom, help the mentees stay more engaged in the education process by using accommodations or modifications as needed. Peer Mentors receive training, with a major emphasis on confidentiality, before going into the classroom.
Those helping recognize the importance of mentors in the classroom include Sonic Drive-In, Coca-Cola, NLHS Principal Clint Hildreth, and NLISD Superintendent John McCullough. North Lamar’s Peer Mentor sponsor is Sandra Patterson.
