Teachers at North Lamar Independent School District will get a chance to meet their students and parents before school starts. All elementary and middle school campuses invite families to come out for Meet the Teacher and a Back to School Bash on Thursday evening, August 20.
Students who will be entering grades 6, 7 and 8 may pick up their schedules and meet their teachers at Stone Middle School from 3:45 – 5:15 p.m.
Aaron Parker Elementary in Powderly will open their doors from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. for an evening of fun.
Pointing out some of Parker’s planned activities, Principal Tammie Bates said, “Teachers will meet with parents and students in their classrooms to go over important information. We encourage students to bring their school supplies to ease the stress of the first day of school.” Fun activities including two slides will take place on the front lawn where hot dogs and drinks will be served to all. Parker T-shirts will be on sale for $15 each and memberships to the PTO will be available.
Students and parents who will be attending Higgins Elementary are invited to the campus from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Higgins Principal Claudia Pursifull said, “Beginning at 5:30 p.m., new parents will meet with me in the cafeteria for a brief orientation. Students may bring their school supplies and put them in their classroom when they go to meet their teachers.” Cookies, Kool-Aid, and carnival themed grab bags will be given to students. Higgins T-shirts will also be available for purchase.
“If parents are unable to attend the Higgins’ bash, they must stop by the Higgins’ office to pick up their parent pickup tags before the first day of school,” said Pursifull. “If they do not have a current year tag, they will have to park and come inside the office to pick up their child on the first day of school.”
Everett Elementary and Bailey Intermediate invite students and parents to their campuses from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Both campuses ask students to bring their school supplies and refreshments will be served to all.
“We are excited about the new school year, and our teachers are looking forward to meeting their students,” said Bailey Principal Angela Compton. “Parents will first meet in the classrooms with teachers while students are invited to the cafeteria to sign a banner that will hang in the gym. Additionally, students may wish to decorate their lockers that evening and supplies will be available for doing just that.”
Principal Carey Malone added that students attending Everett’s bash that night will be able to decorate spirit posters for the hallway.
“Our teachers are just as excited to meet their students as the students are to meet them,” said Malone.
New to Everett’s teaching team, Rainey Parson said, "I'm super excited to start my first year of teaching third grade. I can't wait to see and meet all my new kiddos and their parents at the back to school bash! We are going to have an awesome and fun year of learning!"
