Students graduating in June 2016 from North Lamar High School have been busy this school year raising money for a post-graduation party. Through North Lamar’s Project Graduation, these seniors can experience a safe, drug and alcohol free, all-night event where they can celebrate their accomplishments.
Statistics show that many times drugs and alcohol are part of teenage celebrations. These choices can sometimes end tragically or result in consequences that affect the rest of their lives. At Project Gradation, these young graduates have the opportunity to spend the night celebrating with friends playing games, participating in planned activities, enjoying food, and winning prizes. The goal is to keep them and others safe; all at no cost to the graduates.
North Lamar’s Project Graduation goal is to raise $30,000 for this year’s event. Many fundraisers have been planned throughout the year and have included football tailgate dinners, chances to win a Wal-Mart gift card, silent auctions, and live pie and cake auctions during basketball games. Yet to come are candle sales, a garage sale, working the baseball concessions, and coke product sales.
Now through Friday, February 5th, North Lamar seniors are pre-selling chocolate dipped strawberries at $25 a dozen. These will be ready for pickup onFebruary 12 just in time for Valentine’s Day. Prepared by Savory Sisters, these gourmet treats will make the perfect gift for that special someone.
