NLISD Spring GT Nominations Open

School NewsGreg Higgins

North Lamar ISD is accepting nominations for the Gifted/Talented Program for school year 2016-2017.  The nomination period will continue through February 12, 2016.  Students in kindergarten through grade 11 are eligible.  Students currently participating in the program do not need to apply.

The selection process begins with the nomination of students by parents, community members, or the professional staff of the school district.  Nominated students will participate in the testing process to determine placement in the program.  Parent permission is required for the student to be evaluated for the program.

“Parents or other community members who wish to nominate a student may obtain the nomination forms from the principal's office on each campus or the NLISD website,” said Carolyn Patterson, NLISD GT Coordinator.  “Students in grades 6-11 may self-nominate.  Only those students nominated now will be included in the spring testing for placement in the program.”  All nomination forms must be completed and returned to the principal's office by dismissal time on Friday, February 12, 2016.

An informational meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2016 in the Everett Elementary School Cafeteria.  Specifics about the screening process as well as program organization will be explained in greater detail.
