North Lamar UIL Cross-Examination Debate Team Advances to State

Four North Lamar students will compete at the State Cross-Examination Debate Tournament to be held on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin in March after the North Lamar Debate Team swept the first four places at the UIL District 15 AAAA Cross-Examination Debate Tournament on Tuesday. 

After competing in five one and a half hour rounds, the North Lamar Debate Team earned the District Cross-Examination Debate Championship hosted at the Region 8 ESC in Pittsburg.  Kay Edwards and Zach Huffman placed 1st and will advance to state competition; Steele Musgrove and Colin Hodgkiss placed 2nd and will also advance to state competition; Mason Remaley and Julian Tellez placed 3rd and are alternates to state competition; and Jordan Walters and Garrett Holzwarth placed 4th.  Teams from Pittsburg and Pleasant Grove placed 5th and 6th respectively.  In addition, Musgrove and Hodgkiss tied for top speaker of the tournament.  The North Lamar UIL Cross-Examination Debate Team is coached by Kristi Hodgkiss and Pam Tuttle.
