North Lamar High School English instructor Melissa Arnold, recipient of the VFW Citizenship Education Teacher Award in March, was honored by VFW Commander Bud Mackey for placing second at the VFW District-level contest.

Mackey presented Arnold the VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Post Recognition Award for promoting citizenship education in her classroom and school. He then presented NLHS Principal Clint Hildreth the VFW Citizenship Education Award for Excellence for his nomination of Arnold. This prestigious award exemplifies VFW’s criteria for teachers who teach citizenship education topics regularly and promote America’s history and traditions effectively.
