North Lamar Speech and Debate Wins District Championship

North Lamar High School Speech and Debate Team was named the 2016 UIL District 15AAAA Speech Champion after competing in Pittsburg on Tuesday.

Contributing to the district win beginning front row left are Bailey Fowler (third place in Poetry Interpretation), Abraham Prado (fourth place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate), Jordan Walters (first place in Prose Interpretation and second in Informative Speaking), Mackenzie Beckmon (first place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Top Speaker), Kay Edwards (first in Informative Speaking), Colin Hodgkiss (second place in Persuasive Speaking) and Mason Remaley (third place in Persuasive Speaking and sixth place in Prose Interpretation); back row, Steele Musgrove (first place in Persuasive Speaking and second place in Prose Interpretation), Kristin Sutherlun (fourth place in Poetry Interpretation), Julian Tellez (first place in Poetry Interpretation) and Jake Chollet (second place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and third in Informative Speaking).  The top three in each event will compete at region April 21-23 at Texas A&M Commerce.

Combined with the Cross Examination Debate Tournament in February, the Speech Team earned a total of 241 points in six events to win the championship. North Lamar’s Academic Team placed second overall in the 2016 District AAAA meet.  Sponsor for the group is Kristi Hodgkiss.
