North Lamar Soccer Kicks Off District Play Against Princeton

Adam Routon

This Friday night the Pantherette soccer team will travel to Princeton for the district opener. At the same time the boys squad will host Princeton at R.L. Maddox stadium. The Princeton girls are the defending district champion while their boys squad looks to contend this year after finishing 2nd to Paris last season.

Both NL squads closed the preseason with a loss last Friday and have a near .500 record. Coach Welch is excited about the play of his senior leaders and the improvement of the "young guns" in the lineup. Coach Ewell has a strong group of girls that have returned this year as well as a nice complement of younger players that have contributed throughout the preseason.

This year has yielded an increased level of participation in both programs that includes a high level of talent. Both squads enter district with high ambition to compete for the district championship. Hopefully they will continue the playoff success achieved by last year's girls team that advanced to the Regional Quartefinals before losing to Crandall 2-0.

The season starts with the JV game at 5:30, followed by the varsity match at 7:00. You can help the teams by coming out to the games and supporting NL soccer. See you at the field!
