Pantherettes Post Victories Against Sunnyvale and Community
It has been a roller coaster ride so far this year for Coach Duanna Ewell and her NL girls varsity squad. While there has never been a doubt that these ladies have the talent to succeed, they have struggled at times with effective teamwork. Coming off a tough loss to Pleasant Grove, the Pantherettes needed to establish some consistency.
On Friday night, NL matched up with Sunnyvale. In a night dominated by the Pantherette offense, NL outshot their opponent 33-4. Karlee Alexander (23), Sydney Beshirs (1) and Daisy Rangel (6) each scored a goal off assists by Lauren Howerton (9), Rangel and Olivia Reader (13). With a 3-0 win and solid play on offense and defense, the Pantherettes appeared to be back on track.
NL travelled to Community on Tuesday and fell behind 1-0 early on. Just when it seemed that the Pantherettes may be in for another bad night, Howerton scored to tie the match. NL came out in the 2nd ready to play with goals by Rangel, Megan Baker (8) and Alexander . Kylea Basden (15), Karlie Ewell (2), Alexander and Baker each had an assist.
Earlier the JV squad won 3-0, with goals by Jamielynn Parker (22), Jacee Proffer (12) and Kerahgan Scott (13).
The win by the varsity brings their record to 6-7-2 on the season. They will travel to play Liberty-Eylau in Friday.
