The North Lamar Pantherettes are Area round champions after defeating Emory Rains Thursday night. It wasn’t an easy win for North Lamar but it was still a win. The match went to five sets before North Lamar pulled away for the win (25-22, 17-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-7).

North Lamar only had to go beyond three sets in district play three times. Going five isn’t something that has happened in a long time for North Lamar.

“I’ll tell you how long its been,” coach Barker said about going five sets. “Out of my six players on the court, only two of them knew we were going to 15.”

North Lamar showed great composure in battling back. After winning the first set, Emory pulled away in the second set and had the momentum. The Pantherettes battled back to get the win the third set. Then again, they were able to battle back in the final set after losing the fourth.

Karlie Ewell led the way with 12 kills for North Lamar. Bailey Foy had 11, and Bailee Nickerson finished with 10 kills. Haley Porter had 23 assists to lead the way while Kayla Igleheart had 21. North Lamar will face Spring Hill on Tuesday night. Time and location have yet to be determined.
