It's August in Texas which usually means one thing; football season. However, the North Lamar Pantherettes would like to remind everyone that football isn't the only sport going on right now. Volleyball started practicing the same time football did and they are ready for another dominating season.

The Pantherettes, under head coach Kathy Barker, are looking to repeat as district champions once again. Barker was pleased with the efforts of the young ladies so far in practice. Most of the players participated in the summer strength and conditioning program led by coach Watkins. As a result, the students came into volleyball camp in better shape and stronger.

After hosting a play day last weekend in which teams from around the area came into the North Lamar gym to scrimmage, the Pantherettes travelled to Prairiland earlier in the week. The freshman, the JV and the Varsity teams all competed against Sulphur Springs and Prairiland. None of the North Lamar teams lost a set on the night.

As the temperatures are heating up outside and on the football field, remember things are heating up in the Pantherette gymnasium as well. North Lamar will host Denison on Tuesday night. Freshman will begin at 4:30 with the Varsity starting at 5:30.
